RADI Medical Systems at Uppsala develops innovative medical equipment in close co-operation with doctors and researchers all over the world. RADI's development work has resulted in a number of patented products, of which miniaturised pressure sensor technology for measuring intravenous pressure is the most outstanding.
The type of medical equipment that RADI develops must naturally be of the highest quality all through. This also applies to the enclosure that surrounds the equipment. For the latest product, the Analyzer, RADI has together with Altex styled and designed a box of type CompBox®, which is Altex own trademark for customised enclosures.
- The enclosure is the equipment's "face to the world". It is the part that one sees and it must therefore be of the highest quality at the same time as it must have an attractive appearance and instil confidence, says Sauli Tulkki, in charge of instrument development at RADI Medical Systems. Furthermore, it must be tailor-made and perfectly adapted to suit the components included in the product.
As the products are advanced and complex, it is difficult for RADI to find standard enclosures. The solution is to design a box from the start with exacting dimensions based on the electronics.
- CompBox's concept is ideal for us, Sauli Tulkki continues. It is much simpler with a box that is specially designed for our product compared to trying to adapt the design of the product to some form of standard solution. Using Altex for design and manufacture means that we can concentrate on the equipment's functions and calmly assign Altex to produce the box that we need.
The co-operation between RADI and Altex started back in the autumn of 1998, when work was started on the forerunner of the Analyzer. On that occasion a standard box was used, which was adapted to suit the product.
- The advantages of engaging Altex are many. When we have drawn up our specifications for styling and design, we can hand the project over to Altex who do the CAD drawings, mechanical design, manufacture a model, casting, enclosing, making holes, painting, and screen-printing. In this way we achieve coordination advantages in the project management. We feel very happy about the co-operation and we know by now that Altex goes very seriously into a project, making a strong investment and with much enthusiasm, Sauli Tulkki concludes.
