Filtronic is an expansive manufacturing and knowledge company in western Sweden with a sound knowledge of process air cleaning. It has specialised on working environment products as well as production equipment and training for the electronics industry. The range of products includes filter units, soldering equipment, inspection systems, and labelling systems. All the development and production is at Lidköping.
One of Filtronic's latest products is the MG-75, an advanced extraction unit for soldering smoke, which was launched about a year ago. The product has quickly become a sales success with a sales volume of about 700 units a year. A prerequisite for the success of Filtronic's products is of course the highest quality for all components. This also applies to enclosures, which are the first thing an observer notices.

- The enclosure must have an attractive appearance to capture the attention of the observer. A well-made enclosure can be the factor deciding whether or not a customer is interested. It is therefore of great importance, says Michael Niklasson, a purchaser at Filtronic.
When deciding the enclosure for the MG-75, Filtronic considered either plastic or metal. Finally, an aluminium box was chosen with dimensions 114x63 mm and a height of 29 mm. Filtronic also decided not to machine the enclosure itself, as it had done previously. A search was made for an external subcontractor. The concept of the CompBox®, Altex own trademark with customised electronic enclosures, fitted like a glove. The result was excellent and there were many and big advantages with this co-operation.

- Previously we did all the steps in the machining process ourselves, Michael Niklasson tells us. This meant that we devoted an enormous amount of time to getting all the parts to function properly on the way towards a finished box. The advantages of having Altex supply a finished solution make my work as a buyer much simpler. Instead of having five or six suppliers to produce the enclosure, now I only need to speak to Altex, which in my experience is a fantastic time saving.
The physical distance between the two companies is relatively large but this has not been a problem.
- Communications are so fast today that geographical distance is almost insignificant in this respect. The communications with Altex have worked perfectly and smoothly during the entire process, Michael Niklasson concludes.
